Crack open the bubbly!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First semester is over!!! Had my last exam this morning at 8.30am, it was early and I don’t function before 10am usually.  The exam wasn’t that bad although I wrote a lot and couldn’t finish the last question properly.  So now I get 4 weeks of not having to ready a damn thing :)   I can read trashy romance novels if I want to and not feel guilty.  I can watch Foxtel and not feel guilty.  I can play music trivia online and not feel guilty.  Can you tell I’m excited?

Still no niece or nephew for me but will keep everyone posted.

And with that I’m off…I think I deserve a drink ;)

Cheers!

Still here…

Yes I’m still here but I”m studying really hard and feeling like I’m getting no where fast.  My last exam is on Friday morning and I can’t wait as I so desperately need time to just do nothing.

My sister still has not had her baby but it could be any day.   I am still hoping she will go on the 7th (my birthday) what a wonderful thing that would be.

I just want to write that I have the most beautiful, loving, intelligent children, they are gorgeous boys and I”m so very lucky to have them :)

See you all after the exam!

Warning…This Game is Addictive…

I came across this game a few years ago and just remembered what is was after searching for hours on google. I’m stuck on level 35 and I’m not happy. If you have a go at it please leave a comment on this post and let me know how you go…even if you want to gloat at getting past level 35 :)

The game is called Gridlock .

A Real Winter…

Hey Everyone,

Well is the weather back to normal in Sydney? I don’t know but we have had buckets of rain in drought ridden areas as well as water actually falling in the catchment areas for the dams.  Places west of Sydney are experiencing heavy snowfalls that used to be the norm for those areas years ago.  Australian children actually know what rain is now instead of thinking it is a myth being told by their parents lol

Last night we were supposed to experience cyclonic winds which were of similar strength to a category 2 cyclone.  It didn’t eventuate thank goodness but we did get rain and some wind.  Some roads have been blocked across the mountains due to snow and to fallen trees.  Today though the sun is shining brightly and all seems well :)   I think it’s just exciting to have something similar back that resembles the seasons.

I got my stitches out yesterday from my oral surgery and all is healing well, I just have an indent where my tooth was.  At least the string (stitches) at the back of my mouth is gone…it was becoming really annoying.

My sister still has not gone in to have her baby but I think she is close as she is really uncomfortable.  Or maybe it is just me hoping she goes soon because I can’t wait to see my new nephew or niece.  I’m still really clucky but I’m over wanting anymore of my own.  I am quite happy and feel blessed with my two beautiful sons.  I’m the luckiest mother on the planet :)   they are gorgeous, thoughtful, caring and funny.

I still have one more exam to go and have been studying reasonably…kinda…well trying to lol  I haven’t received any of my other marks back yet but my Modernism essay and Australian Textual Studies essay exams should be interesting because I was on painkillers when I wrote them.   Perhaps I wrote my best work then lol time will tell.

What is on my agenda for today?  Well I did some shopping as my handbag broke and a girl just can’t function without her handbag.  I mean where else can I keep my ipod, phone, camera etc.  I put oil in my car because it was kind of not working because there wasn’t much in it (naughty Savannah!), and you guys can stop laughing I’m usually pretty good with the oil in the car thing.  I guess I will probably study some more unless I get a better offer… oh and I have to go the library to get some books later to help me study better…politics is kind of heavy on theory.

My gripe for today…the politicians got around a 6% pay rise.  Why? Seriously the only time anything gets done is when an election is coming up.  If I behaved the way they did in parliament at my school or a place of employment I would be fired.

Meanwhile the country’s dental health care is in crisis, many classrooms in public school still do not have air conditioning which is a must for Australian schools.  For those of you not living here, summer temps get to around 40 deg celsius or 100 deg farenheit on a regular basis while the children are still at school just before and just after summer break.  Many classrooms do not have air conditioning,  perhaps this should be rectified before we throw money at the private schools who get enough money from the exorbitant school fees they charge and the government funding they receive as well, which is more per student then for public schools.  How is that fair?

We have older Australians living below poverty yet the parliamentarians not only are given a rise in income but are also exempt from paying most of it in taxes due to the taxation bracket they fall into.

You know what I think would be fair?  If politicians had to live on the minimum wage ordinary Australians lived on.  See how they go trying to organise their financial commitments, things like food, clothes, school needs, mortgage payments, childcare and health care.  Not only will they all be brought back to reality with a thud but they will see how hard it is to live with the rising cost of fuel and groceries.  They will see why many families have to give up things such as outings with their children and buy less groceries just to survive in order the mortgage and petrol bills are paid.

The government is trying to bring in pay based on performance which I think is a great idea but perhaps we should extend it to them also.

Ok I’m done now…kinda :)

Take care!

This audio cracks me up…

The clip leaves a lot to be desired but the audio is a classic! I”m still laughing :)

Paris Hilton…

You know I wasn’t going to post anything about her because I really just don’t get her. Yes she is attractive and is thin and worth a lot of money but I just can’t get past at how dumb she is. I know I don’t know her personally but if I was as famous as her I wouldn’t want to be seen in the way she is. Maybe watching the video of hers turned me off, although she makes me look like a sex Goddess in the bedroom lol not that I”m bragging because I’m  celibate (ahem – looking for an angel emoticon that isn’t here lol).

I mean she thinks she is above the law and when she is punished she goes into breakdown mode. Of course she doesn’t want to be there…but does she think the other inmates enjoy prison? Does any ex prisoner come out into society after a sentence and say ‘hey! I love prison life I want go back in!’…somehow I don’t think so.

However having said that I don’t think she should have been given a jail term. In my opinion it won’t change anything. I feel that for people that continue to drink/drive they should be given community service by way of watching people who are victims from drink drivers come into the Emergency room. This dose of reality about the consequences of what drink drivers cause might be the best way to shock these kinds of people into not re-offending.

I mean even after all this you have to ask the question, why does she not just use a driver? It’s not like she can’t afford it.

I’ll leave that as my thought for today.

Cheers!

Savannah ;)

One Left to Go…

Yay! Two assessments down and one exam left for this semester which isn’t until 29th June. In the last week I have handed in one 3,000 word essay on Modernism and I have just completed four pieces of writing as part of my take home exam for Australian Textual Studies. I am a little worried if I will pass because I was on a lot of medication when I did them both due to the operation on my gum and tooth.  The swelling on the side of my face has gone down which is great :)   If I just pass the assessments I will be very happy so keep your fingers crossed for me.

I have to say though, my book case is looking very impressive since I started university. I’m even able to say I have read all the books as well (yes I might brag about it but I will sound like a pretentious snob lol). There is a large variety there due to the English units I have taken, which have been 5 so far with another 3 next semester, plus a core unit which was based on novels but not counted as part of the English major.

So far this semester I have read:

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

Portrait of a Man as a Young Artist by James Joyce

Despair by Vladimir Nabokov

The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner

Voss by Patrick White

Butterfly Song by Terri Janke

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie by May Gibbs

Don’s Party by David Williamson (play)

Where the Sea Burns by Jill Jones (poetry)

Selected Poems by Kennth Slessor (poetry) my favourite Australian poet

Coonardoo by Katharine Susannah Pritchard

Poetry and stories by Kevin Hart, Henry Lawson, A.B. Paterson, Barbara Baynton and the Jindyworobaks.

I also have a thick reader for each unit that I have to do selected readings for each weeks topic. They usually range between 50 to 100 pages for each unit. So now you can see why I feel so tired and burnt out :( all this on top of researching and writing plus the things I do outside of school. I need 4 weeks off to be wild and naughty to make up for all that boring stuff lol

I can’t do that right now so instead I’m taking today off to relax and then back into studying for my introduction to international politics exam in two weeks.

I saw my sister yesterday and I think this baby will be here within two weeks. I can’t wait :)

The rain has stopped in Sydney at the moment where I am but I think we might get more, I just hope those up in northern NSW are safe from the flooding they received for the deluge that was dropped earlier in the week.

Until next time…be good or be good at it ;)

Doctor Who?

Well I am supposed to be re-reading the Australian literary high cultured novel of Voss by Patrick White. However I made the mistake of sitting down and taking a break in the living room while the tv was on. Why a mistake? Unfortunately because every time I have a break near the tv I get distracted and lose track of what I should be doing. My preference is travel shows, the supernatural, biographies and the like. Tonight, it was none of those shows that captured my attention, it was a sci fi show. This show was Doctor Who.

I have to admit I never watched my first Startrek episode with Captain Luc Picard, until a year or so ago. I avoided shows of that genre and Doctor Who like the plague. I don’t know why. Maybe because I felt out of my depth in not understanding the hi tech gadgetry and terminology and view of what the future could be like.

Growing up I liked Australian mini series like the Dirtwater Dynasty, the Thornbirds, Bodyline, Bangkok Hilton and the like. I also liked Murder She Wrote, Columbo (I was young!), Magnum PI, Dynasty, the Loveboat, Remington Steele, the Sullivans, A Country Practice etc.

I have to admit that I was also guilty of watching the ‘romance’ mini series put out by Danielle Steele such as Buttons and Bows and Jackie Collins’ efforts. Although around the time between the end of high school and having babies I liked to watch Melrose Place, Chicago Hope, the X Files, Friends, Frazier and so forth. But lately I have been watching sci fi programs, in particularly Startrek, and enjoying them which is so totally not me.

So I just thought I would post to say that Foxtel are having a Doctor Who marathon weekend and that I just watched two episodes, 9 and 10. It was about the virus that was released from an ambulance war ship by Captain Jack (he is gorgeous! he can leave his space suit in my wardrobe any day!). This virus gave everyone that came into contact with it, a face that was fused with a gas mask and was set in London during WWII. They played a lot of Glenn Miller in those episodes which inspires me and takes me to thinking about the pre-war years, especially that reality show they had that was set in England imitating war time. Anyways I digress (although the Regency house was a pretty good reality series, look out Jane Austen! hehehe) but I really enjoyed Doctor Who and wish I could watch more of it, however Voss awaits … :(

Actually I watched a lot of tv when I was younger like I Dream of Jeannie, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Bewitched, Fantasy Island (the plane! the plane!), the Waltons (night Mary Jo, night Spot), the Brady Bunch (Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!), Mork and Mindy (nanoo nanoo), Hawaii Five-O (book ‘em Danno!), Quincy, Little House on the Prairie, Grizzly Adams, the Monkees… hmm I didn’t realise, I could just keep adding :)   My memories of my early adolescent television days lol.

While I still don’t watch Babylon Five or Buffy (although Angel is so cute!) I still think my tastes have changed. For those of you that watch the sci fi channel, one night they had an adult cartoon on there called Tripping the Rift which is Canadian. I am really surprised they allowed that kind of content on that channel. My eyes nearly fell out of my head lol. I was ‘lucky’ enough to catch the episode of the the female characters going to a women’s prison and they showed a shower scene and strip search scene…cartoons I know… but it was scary. So for you guys out there that like that kind of thing…keep an eye out for it, it’s usually on around 11.30pm in Australia.

Weather is still very bad with a lot of rain and more wind. Some people are still missing who got caught in the flash flooding where part of the Old Pacific Highway collapsed and 7 people went missing. We need the rain but this wild weather which has been likened to a mini cyclone is just causing so much havoc. There are even large ships caught on beaches that can’t move out to larger areas of water. One ship is carrying a large amount of oil and if the waves keep pounding the hull, it could split leading to an environmental disaster on a massive scale.

Ok I must go as I have a ‘date’ with Voss lol.

Cheers!

What has happened to Sydney in the last few days?

Most people have seen it.  It has caused traffic jams.  Many have experienced for several days.  Some have never seen it before such as children.  What can it be?

Why it’s rain of course !!!! and lots of it :) ))  Sydney has been deluged with a huge down pour over the last few days as well as in areas where it is needed in the west.  We have also experienced big winds especially around the beach areas.  I know in my home town, the street gutters are bursting with torrents of water.  My children don’t know what to make of it as they haven’t see a site like this since they were babies.

Although it’s a pain to drive in and a challenge getting the children to school and keeping them dry, I hope we see a lot more of this rain.  Especially where the farmers need it and into the dams for the water supply.

It’s been 4 days since my tooth came out in surgery.  I’m very very sore and still pureeing everything because I can’t open my  mouth that wide…many people are thinking this is a blessing in disguise lol.  My right of my jaw is still very swollen and bruised.  Would I get it done again despite the fact I had no choice as it had to come out… NO lol it really REALLY hurts!   I’m sick of drinking soup, custard and coffee through straws.  It’s also affecting my personal life to no end lol ok I shouldn’t say that.

Hmm finished my modernism essay today, I don’t think I will pass but I’m always optimistic.  I tried so hard to grasp the unit but I just couldn’t get on top of it.  I am glad I was giving the opportunity to read the books  in the unit, I just wish I could have grasped the concepts better.  Keep your fingers crossed for me that I pass.  Two  more exams to go until FREEDOM for one month :)

On my sisters baby progress, everything is going as long as it should.  She is getting uncomfortable but no more false alarms this week.

Hmmm ok I will leave it there I’m getting sleepy.

Until next time !

Savannah :)

It’s Finally Out!

Just a quickie :P

My tooth came out this morning and I’m in a lot of pain. It took them an hour to get the tooth out it just wouldn’t come out and took them 5 needles to anaethise the area.

The oral surgeon said the roots were hooked around the nerves and said it’s a possibility that the bottom half of my lip and half of my tongue might be paralysed but they couldn’t tell until the anaesthetic has wears off.   So to untangle the roots and get the tooth out they cut my jawbone, drilled for over 30 minutes and put in 4 stitches.

Now I’m waiting for the painkillers to kick in that they gave me so I thought I would check my emails for school and stuff.

Will blog later as I think the painkillers are kicking in.   Hope you all have a great day.
